'Contemporary Ephebes

ἔφηβος - Ephebos (often in the plural epheboi), also anglicized as ephebe (plural: ephebes) or archaically ephebus (plural: ephebi), is a Greek word for a young boy or adolescent.
In Ancient Greek sculpture, an Ephebe is a sculptural type depicting a nude ephebos (Archaic examples of the type are also often known as the 'kouros' type, or 'kouroi' in the plural).

Junge Zac wie der Geist des Sieges

Der Geist des Sieges
Franz von Stuck

Stuck was born at Tettenweis, in Bavaria.
From an early age he displayed an affinity for drawing and caricature.
To begin his artistic education he relocated in 1878 to Munich, where he would settle for life. From 1881 to 1885 Stuck attended the Munich Academy.
Stuck's subject matter was primarily from mythology, inspired by the work of Arnold Böcklin.
Large forms dominate most of his paintings and indicate his proclivities for sculpture.
His seductive female nudes are a prime example of popular Symbolist content.
Stuck paid much attention to the frames for his paintings and generally designed them himself with such careful use of panels, gilt carving and inscriptions that the frames must be considered as an integral part of the overall piece.

Christen Købke - 1810-1848

Christen Schiellerup Købke (26 May 1810 – 7 February 1848), Danish painter, was born in Copenhagen to Peter Berendt Købke, a baker, and his wife Cecilie Margrete.
Købke, a national romantic, painted portraits, landscapes and architectural paintings.
Most of Købke’s portraits show friends, family members and fellow artists.
He found most of his motifs in his immediate surroundings.
Now he is recognized internationally for his well composed and harmonic paintings, for their coloristic qualities and for his sense of the everyday life. But in his lifetime he was almost forgotten, especially because of his early death and limited production.
Despite his talent and the praise of various contemporaries, Købke had never been inundated with commissions.
Købke is recognized today as one of the most talented among Denmark’s Golden Age painters and the most internationally renowned Danish painter of his generation.

Georg Karl Balthasar von Hoeßlin (* 20. März 1851 in Budapest; † 9. Februar 1923 in München) war ein bayerischer Professor, Maler, und Mitglied der allgemeinen deutschen Kunstgenossenschaft.
George von Hoeßlin (1851-1923) is an interesting figure in art in view of his origins and study.German by heritage, but born in Hungary and educated in the United States, after his family emigrated to North America in 1856.In 1870 he wanted to study art and returned to Europe (München) where he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts.In München, (Munich), he trained under Wilhelm Lindenschmit (1829 -1 895), a German history painter. He traveled to Rome and Venice for additional studies later on.In 1880 he returned to Boston, Mass.He made return trips to München after his return to America. The drawing was probably a preparatory study for an historical painting, part of his oeuvre of portraits and historical paintings.
